800 gr lean steak cubes 3 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion
2 cloves garlic
2 medium carrots
3 sticks celery
½ glass red wine
fresh basil
fresh parsley
4 medium potatoes
flour and seasoning
1/2 cup tomato passata
Season the meat with salt and pepper and lightly flour it. In a shallow pan big enough to take all the ingredients place oil, sliced onion, garlic, meat and wine. Add the tomato sauce and the basil, ½ cup of water and cover with lid. Bring to boil and simmer on a moderate heat until meat is tender. It can take up to 2 hours depending on the cut. When you think that the meat is almost cooked, say ½ hour before, add the chopped carrot, celery and potatoes. Let cook covered until vegetables are cooked but not mashy. Sprinkle with parsley and serve. It goes well with rice and more black pepper.
